Telegram channel posting API for AI agents
Let an AI agent post, thread and schedule messages in a Telegram channel or group through one Chirpie API key or MCP tool, using your own bot.
Updated October 2026
How do you post to a Telegram channel from an AI agent?
Add a Telegram bot to your channel as an admin, connect it to Chirpie with its bot token and the channel name, then let the agent call POST /api/v1/posts or the chirpie_post MCP tool. Chirpie sends text, photo albums and video, threads messages as replies, and schedules announcements for later in your own timezone.
What Chirpie does on Telegram
- Messages of up to 4,096 characters, or 1,024 when a photo or video is attached, formatted safely for Telegram.
- Threads of 2 to 25 messages, each one a reply to the one before, all or nothing: if a part fails, every part already sent is deleted. See Threads.
- Media: up to 10 images as an album (JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP, 5 MB each) or 1 MP4 video up to 20 MB. Telegram fetches each file by URL. See Media.
- Scheduling, drafts and editing: queue an announcement, save a draft, or edit it until it goes out. See Scheduling.
- Several channels at once: connect the bot to each channel and publish to all of them, plus your other networks, in one request. See Post to several accounts at once.
- Links: a message in a public channel carries its
t.melink inplatform_post_url. - Delete: removes the message within Telegram's 48 hour window and keeps Chirpie's record of it, marked deleted.
Telegram has no metrics API for channel messages and no comment API Chirpie reads, so there are no Telegram analytics or comment tools.
Connect your Telegram channel
- Create a bot with @BotFather and copy its token.
- Add the bot to your channel or group as an admin that can post messages.
- Connect it on the Accounts page, or call the API:
curl -X POST https://chirpie.ai/api/v1/accounts \
-H "Authorization: Bearer chirpie_sk_YOUR_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"platform": "telegram",
"bot_token": "123456789:ABCdefGHIjklMNOpqrSTUvwxYZ",
"chat_id": "yourchannel"
}'The channel can be a bare name, @yourchannel, a t.me link or the numeric chat id. From the terminal, chirpie accounts connect-telegram prompts for the token without echoing it. From an agent, the chirpie_connect_telegram tool takes the same two values.
Post from code
curl -X POST https://chirpie.ai/api/v1/posts \
-H "Authorization: Bearer chirpie_sk_YOUR_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"account_id": "YOUR_TELEGRAM_ACCOUNT_ID",
"text": "Version 3.1 is live. What changed, with screenshots:",
"media_urls": ["https://example.com/one.png", "https://example.com/two.png"]
}'import { ChirpieClient } from "@chirpie/sdk";
const chirpie = new ChirpieClient({ apiKey: process.env.CHIRPIE_API_KEY! });
await chirpie.createPost({
account_id: "YOUR_TELEGRAM_ACCOUNT_ID",
text: "Maintenance window tonight from 22:00 to 23:00 UTC.",
schedule_at: "2026-11-05T20:00:00Z",
});The full request reference is Posts. A complete bot, built step by step, is in Build a Telegram announcement bot with the SDK.
Post from Claude or ChatGPT
Add Chirpie to Claude from its listing in the Claude Connectors Directory, or add https://chirpie.ai/mcp as an app in ChatGPT developer mode, and sign in. Then ask:
- "Post the release notes to our Telegram channel with these two screenshots."
- "Schedule a reminder in the Telegram channel for Friday at 5pm Berlin time."
- "Send this announcement to Telegram, X and Bluesky at once."
Setup guides: Claude, ChatGPT.
Frequently asked questions
What do I need to post to a Telegram channel with Chirpie?
A Telegram bot and a channel or group it can post in. Create the bot with @BotFather, add it to the channel or group as an admin, then give Chirpie the bot token and the channel name. Telegram does not use OAuth.
How long can a Telegram message be?
4,096 characters for a text message, and 1,024 when the message carries a photo or video, which is Telegram's caption limit. Chirpie checks both before anything is sent.
Can one bot post to several channels?
Yes. Connect the bot once per channel or group. Each connection is its own Chirpie account with its own account id, so an agent can post to one channel or to all of them in a single request.
Does Chirpie report analytics for Telegram?
No. Telegram has no metrics API for channel messages, so an analytics request for a Telegram post answers 502 with Could not fetch metrics.
Can Chirpie delete a Telegram message?
Yes, within 48 hours of posting. Telegram refuses to delete a message older than that, and Chirpie passes the refusal on rather than marking the post deleted. The bot also needs permission to delete messages in the channel.
